![]() ![]() I can’t A-B this with the new Petersen HD but I understand they have improved since the model that I owned was manufactured. Another thing I noticed right off the bat is how fast this thing responds compared to my Petersen flip. After a week or so I was quite used to what I was seeing and it no longer seems strange at all. When you are in tune the rotation more or less stops or “stands stillâ€. Obviously I had prepared all my offsets in advance and had them written down and ready to use.įirst impressions were that using it is a little disconcerting the first few times as the display is rotating led lights that rotate clockwise if the note is sharp and counterclockwise if it’s flat. It came in 2 days and during that time I read through the downloaded manual enough times that when it arrived I had no problem programming it in no more than 5 minutes or so. Maybe a possible downside to someone who wants “plug and play†from their tuner.Īt the time I pulled the trigger (~4 months ago) The Turbo Tuner was $10 cheaper. I got into programming my own variations a long time ago so, for me at least, programming the Turbo tuner was not a downside in any way since I would have ended up programming the Petersen as well. It seems that a lot of us end up buying the Petersen and just using the presets for Pedal Steel Guitar that come preinstalled. It just seemed like a good time to try something new so I ultimately went with the Turbo tuner ST-300 stomp box tuner. These are just my own opinions and I would not question anyone’s choice to buy the Petersen HD at all. YMMV.Īs much as I liked my Petersen tuner, and as great a reputation for customer service as they have, I could not get past reservations concerning the rechargeable battery (you just know if you own it long enough you’re going to need to replace it) and most of all the fact that, to me at least, it just looks really fragile. I chose to pass on this option as I wanted the consistency and dependability of a box I can hold in my hand. You can easily make a case for a variety of cell phone apps as well. I’ve gotten used to programmable tuner like a lot of us so really the only two options that I found worthy are the new Petersen HD and the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. It seemed to me to be a good time to consider a new tuner. Petersen offered a fix for about $50 plus shipping each way. Today, there are millions of copies all over the world.I bought a Petersen Flip tuner used from a forum member about 5 years ago and it served me well until about 4 months ago when it started to eat batteries in less than 1 hour of use. We didn’t even know if we’d have the money to print the next edition.
